Mentor Program

The Shelby County Youth Assistance Program is accepting applications for youth to register to be involved in our mentoring programs. We offer group mentoring and individual mentoring.

Youth must reside in Shelby County. For more information about the programs available, please contact our staff about the process. Parents/Guardians may submit an application for youth participation in mentoring using the application below and will be contacted about next steps.

Individual Mentoring

Individual mentoring serves youth between the ages of 8-16. Mentors meet with mentees each week for at least 1 hour. Mentors and their mentees schedule meetups and plan activities together. The mentoring program is available to provide opportunities to introduce youth to new activities, share positive values, provide support and offer encouragement during critical life stages.

Group Mentoring

SCYAP has partnered with the Heart for Shelbyville Ministries and the Shelby County YMCA to bring a new group mentoring program called Just Be You. Just Be You serves youth in grades 6th-8th attending Shelbyville Middle School. Just Be You meets Thursdays after school and must be picked up by 6pm. Students are transported from the Shelbyville Middle School to the YMCA where a group of youth and a group of adult mentors get together to play social games. This group mentoring program provides an opportunity for youth to have a safe space to have fun, build relationships with other youth and adults, and to always be accepted just the way they are.
